T-Shirt Dress: Serger Project

I got a serger for my birthday this year. I finally started my first clothing project after about a month of getting accustomed to four spools as opposed to the two on my straight stitch machine.

For my intro project, I patterned and sewed a ¾ sleeve t-shirt dress sewn with knit fabric.

My inspiration? Frustration. Before sewing this dress, I bought a t-shirt dress that looked great in the dressing room, but after one wash the hemline rose significantly. I tried on more shirt dresses and they either made me look wide or were the wrong length. For a short, pear-shaped person like me, shopping for the right fit can be super frustrating.

I decided to take matters into my own hands and create my first garment with a serger. It’s a basic t-shirt dress that’s loose and just the right length – exactly what I wanted!
